“Let’s talk bowels.”

What are some common causes of a bowel obstruction? Think “A-B-C”:

Adhesions

Bulge (i.e. hernia)

Cancer OR Crohn’s

 

How do you know if a bowel loop is dilated? Easy! Remember the “3-6-9” rule!

The maximum diameter of the bowel should be the following:

 3 cm for the small intestine

6 cm for the large bowel

9 cm for the cecum
