Soft tissue injury

This week, The Weekly Mnemonic features sports medicine. A soft tissue injury is damage to ligaments, tendons and muscles. These are treated with the “RICE” regimen.

R = Rest (may include using crutches or a brace)

I = Ice (to reduce inflammation and pain, applied 20 minutes every hour for 1-2 days after the injury)

C = Compression (to reduce swelling with a bandage that stretches in order to avoid reducing circulation)

E = Elevation (to reduce swelling)
